I'm looking for manuals or any information available for this tractor. I am also concerned about the Hydrstat. drive. It just barely engages into forward and seems to slow down after cutting lawn for a while. Reverse is fine. Is this just linkage adjustment or impending component failure ? D.J.

Mike, leaving the question of religion entirely out of it, I agree with your assessment that the old gentleman was not cheated.

The fair price of any given thing is the amount that the buyer agrees to buy for, and the seller agrees to accept, at a given point in time. You and the seller reached that agreement, and neither was under duress to agree. That's what happens at auctions.

I collect IH Cub Cadets. I have seen Cub Cadet parts and accessories selling in the collector market climb in value to unreal levels when the stock market was going strong and everybody had work, then crash back to what I call reasonable levels since the economy went bad. But there are still certain items that bring many, many times their value of just a few years ago in that marketplace. It all goes back to what the seller will sell for, and what the buyer will pay, at any given point in time.

I bought an excellent manual from a New Holland dealer for the YT-16.

Don't know about the YT16 specifically, but I had a similar problem on a simplicity hydro unit. It would slow down uphill especially, and I found that this required tightening of the linkage to prevent the lever from slipping towards neutral when under load. It could also be old hydro fluid, which is getting too thin as it warms up. On mine, I changed the fluid (estimate it was about 15 years old) and was amazed at the difference in performance. It was much more responsive, and no longer ran away on me going downhill. If you change the fluid, just make sure to THOROUGHLY CLEAN everything around the pump before draining and refilling. Dirt in the pump will kill it quicker than anything else.
