It quit on me this spring and after taking the motor apart I found toasted rod bearings. It is in such bad shape that I cannot tell if the bearing is separate from the rod and cap or if the bearing surface is part of the rod. Anyone else have any experience with these 12hp Tecumseh motors? Any ideas of where to get parts reasonably?

The rod rides directly on the crank. A tecumseh dealer can still get parts. You will most likely need to have the crank turned down and get an appropriately matched rod. NAPA parts stores also have some parts for this engine including an aftermarket rod for cranks turned down .010

Jim, thanks for the reply and the e-mail. Do you know off hand if .010 is the max you can turn down one of these cranks and still get a rod off the shelf? I'm trying to weigh all of my options before ordering the new crank and rod from the dealer.

Thanks for the input!

From NAPA there was only the one option. Check with a Tecumseh dealer they should have a couple choices still available.
