We just purchased a Farm ette garden tractor at a yard sale.
it has a Tecumpseh engine and a hand clutch with a small underneath mower assembly that is belt driven. I would like some information this tractor it is a electric start and hand start but does not appear to have a generator.

If it is electric start, and the starter is a large belt-drive unit (similar to an old auto generator), this is actually a starter/generator combo. Through the use of the regulator unit and ignition switch it functions as a motor to drive the belt to start the engine, and then is driven by the belt to become a DC generator to charge a battery and run accessories. This setup was very common on most tractors prior to 1980 or so, and you can get plenty of wiring info from Cub Cadet Lawn Tractor manuals, or many others. It sounds more complicated than it really is, and most problems are simply worn brushes in the starter/generator or faulty(rusty/dirty) regulators. Clean or replace them.
