Well a lot of the old time folks on this forum no that I ain't scared to hook a chain to any thing with my Mighty Lawn Ranger Six Speed Wheel Horse and at a lot of the antique tractor shows I go to I have fun by hooking up a big chain to large steam engines to my little Wheel Horse . People get a big laugh and take pictures of this , it's sorta like the story of David and Golith . Any how last month at a local antique tractor club show I talked a guy who had a old Case (mid-50's) into a little draw bar to draw bar just to get a little action into the show for folks , now this was no ordinary Case tractor as it had a 6-71 Detriot Diesel that was turbo charged (and I believe he had some bigger injectors in it too). So we hook up a chain and he keeps his tractor in neutral and with my little Wheel Horse I start to pull him back (he pulled his throttle a little to ack like he was trying), then he leaned down and told me to push my clutch in and he started to pull me back . The crowd was laughing and carrying on about this , just having a good time watching . Then he had me pull him back wards for a while again BUT all of a sudden he puts his big Case in gear and full throttle he pulls me and my little Wheel Horse backwards at 15 MPH .... my Wheel Horse was spinning the rear wheels all the way ! Oh how the crowd loved it !

Case 444's are definatley good Lawn Tractors. I've seen them go from $600.00 to $1500 depending on the condition. A lot of the time you have to be wary of the hydro pump being good, sometimes the tractor isn't worth the hassle if the hydro pump isn't good.

Case uses hydro drive, alot of manufacturers do. Case uses strictly a hydraulic pump for the transmision, if the pump is bad the cost to repair or replace is high and sometimes outvalues the worth of the tractor.

the 126 and 125 both use the older type of replaceable bearing spindle. the ones ryan's dealer is thinking of are for the newer stamped decks. new bearings can be had at napa for $7 or the whole kit from MTD for about 30. $97 it better be installed for $97!!!i gresse mine every other mowing (about 5 hours of run time) i'm still running bearings from 40 years ago as best i can tell

This is a good unit. I have a later one made by Ingersoll. They are tanks. If you need more info. Yahoo has a case/ingersoll club. You can find any thing you are looking for there.
