when lever is in gear the wheels move but very slowly ..I have just drained all the fluid in the transmission case..by opening the back cover...it seems the old fluid was turning to gel... I need to know what kind of cleaner can be used to clean out the inside of the transmission???... I changed to filter ..any additional advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks ..... ...John

John, I bought a 1650 not running.,when I got it home I cleaned the carb, ran great but would not move. I found that the hydro fluid had turned to jelly. I drained all out that I could and installed a cheap auto oil filter that fit. I then filled the trans with diesel fuel and the tractor started moving. I drove about 15 minutes then drained it again and removed the auto filter. I refilled with proper fluid and installed a new filter. Tractor works great now. David in OKC

John This sounds like your first Hydro
Hydros Should not move at all whith the speed leaver in any posistion. There are relif vales that allow the machine to be pushed. Note pushed NEVER TOWED! I would take a Rag and clean the entire area inside the back cover. you have done good by getting a new filter also replace the gaskit for the rear cover it would be a waste to have to redrain the rear end if the gaskit leaks.
Don't forget to use only IH hy-tran or Cub Cadet transmision fluid for the older IH units as the new models use very diffrent stuff.
