First, thanks to those who have lent a hand to my posts in the past.
My 317 is up and running, thanks to the advice here on the forum. The 175 is still a problem. After soaking the carb, it still starts and runs only on lowest throttle, and then only for a few seconds. However, If I remove the air filter I can reach the choke plate. Holding a finger on the hole in the plate, and holding the plate in nearly closed, it runs close to normal. However, I can't mow like that. It seems like it's getting too much air. The seals are new, so it isn't leaking it anywhere. Does anyone out there have an idea about what I can do to correct this, and lend some insight on what is going on

problem could be a number of things. I would check your fuel filter and fuel pick up line. You may need to overhaul the carb or last thing might be a new fuel pump. Kawasaki doesn't offer a fuel pump rebuild kit only new pump.

you are probably running the carb. WAY to lean. Open the main jet screw slightly until it runs correctly. You may also need to overhaul the carb.

FIRST IF THE CARB HAD A WHITE COROSION ( POWDERY WHITE SCALE ) ON THE INSIDE BY THE BOWL ON THE PICKUP THROW IT OUT ITS JUNK! SOME PROBLEMS CAN BE A LOOSE VENTURI A CRACKED OR POROUS CASTING ON THE INSIDE GALLEYS! IF IT IS ATECUMSEH CARB THEY ARE DIPPED TO STOP LEAKS IF HAS BEEN SOAKED FOR MORE THAN 10 MIN IT IS PROBABLY SHOT! COULD HAVE THE IDLE PASSAGE PLUGGED ALSO DIS YOU REMOVE THE IDLE PASSAGE WELCH PLUG AND BLOW IT OUT
