While we were on vacation the oil reserve tank for the hydraulic system was filled with gasoline by mistake and the tractor was operated after this. How much damage has been done, and would draining the system and refilling with new oil be suffient to rectify the situation?

This is an older Case 444 with all hydraulic system - garden tractor

As long as you didn't run it very long it shouldn't hurt the hydraulics. The system may be cleaner now but like the other posts states, be sure to flush it out well, using the 20w50 oil of course. Be extra careful for the fluid will be more volatile than normal.

I would think if the tractor wasn't run to long you might get lucky and get away with draining the oil and flushing the system out with fresh oil and then refilling, thats about the easiest way to find out if any damage was done. just my $.02 worth.
