Has any one out there ever replaced this older style 3 speed transaxle with anything else?
Can a newer version of a hydrostatic inter-change?
How much work and is it fesilbe? Thanks loads...

Hi Al. I don't have actual experiance here, since I don't own a round-fender, but in the service manual, it says you cannot replace a 3 speed with the later 4 speed, because of frame clearance. Installing a hydro would be a massive butcher job in my eyes, seeing as how Deere never used a hydro that was belt drivin with a horizontal shaft engine (at least that I know of). That being said, I know that Peerless transaxles were very similer to other makes, such as the 3 speed Sears Custom 600 I used to own, other than maybe swapping out the shift lever/tower, it would have probably bolted right in a Deere. So if yours in junked out, I would say to look around at some different makes of tractors to see if they used a similer transaxle.
