Bolens Hydrostatic creeps forward reverse

I have an early 1980's Bolens 16hp Model 1658 with Hydrostatic trans. The manual mentions
a "neutral adjustment" for when the
transmission creeps in a certain direction...
however mine creeps in both forward
and reverse... it feels like the footpedal
is loose. I remember how it used to be
5 or 10 years ago.. you pressed forward
and lift your foot, and it returned to center.
You pushed down, and lift your foot, and
again it would (at that time) spring back to
center. It doesn't do that anymore. It kind
of says stuck where you pressed it, thus driving the transmission in either forward or reverse.

Is there some sort of hall-back springs to
center the pedal that are old/broken? If so
anyone know where they are? Are they inside
the transmission? Anyone know the repair?

Thanks,

-Brendan

Don't know much about your tractor Brendan, but I think your problem is likely worn or loose linkage. Do what you can to see the linkage from the peddal to the pump, try moving it (eng off of course) and see what you can make tighter. If you can find anything to fix you may need to readjust the linkage. Figure which way it is off and adj the linkage to move the pump to neutral when the peddal is in neutral. This reply is based on a lot of assumptions, hope it will help.

I was also emailing my questions before
getting under the machine. I have it working
pretty good now, it still likes to "drift"
because the Fw/Rev section right under
the axle was getting rusty
and hanging up.. WD40 does wonders. :)

Thanks,

-Brendan

Good stuff Brendan. When you get it good and free a little oil or graese might be good.
