My CubCadet 1000 broke the motor mounts and destroyed the clutch. Now, my dealer tells the old style mounts are no longer available (NLA) and that the replacements cause too much tractor vibration even when installed to 8-ft. lbs. per the directions. Does anyone make a replacement mount for this tractor besides MDT? Who would have some NOS mounts laying around?

Second question: Why does the tractor need motor mounts? My Cub 71 with a ten-horse engine has very little vibration and the motor is bolted direct to the frame. Why was the 1000 done differently, and why should two similar Kohler engines run differently?

I believe you will find that the flexible center clutch drive disc will last much longer if the mounts are tightened to spec's. It will keep the engine from moving around so much. The worn mounts taht allowed the engine movement is what caused your clutch problems.

You can take your mount to a heating and cooling supply house, compressors on cooling units are mounted in very similar mounts and I am sure you can get them the size you need for less than $1.00 a piece. Good Luck

you'll notice some vibration but not enough to make you not like it. they rubber mounted them to make them smother & quieter. all the previous years they were just solid mounted with noe rubber mounts . it won't be worse than your 71

your 1000 is the first attempt IH cub cadet made to make a quiet , smooth tractor, the rubber mounted the engine , put side panels on it , made the big exhoust box on the front for cooling all efforts to make them more freindly to consumers

Peter,

Try the link I attached. You have to pay to join and post wanted/for sale ads but if you look at the for sale ads (you can read for free)you will find some guys that have parts machines. You could e-mail them direct and obtain an original motor mount. Your 1000 is a "quite line" Cub, they had the side covers and the soft engine mounts, wide frame as well. I am sure you could make a new mount if need be. You could also make a solid mount to replace your bad one and probobly not notice much vibration. I have a 1450 which is very similar to yours but have never looked that close at the mount. If you try the Cub Cadet site I am sure you can find one though.

Good Luck, Rob

I wonder if the dealer meant that if you use all 4 new replacements it vibrates too much? Maybe they are a real soft rubber, the originals are pretty stiff rubber. If you only replaced the one I find it hard to believe it would effect it much.

On the mounts, the new ones are a STIFFER rubber than the old style ones. I am sure the dealer did not properly install them, which is why he got excessive vibration. The new style mounts must be installed with the nuts tightened so just one thread of the bolt is peeking through, NOT installed to the torque specs in the manual.

Put 'em in right, and they will perform like the old ones and will last longer.

Another alternative: Moog sway bar kit K5252. Between 6-12 dollars. One kit has enough of the CORRECT size bushings to do an ISO mounted engine. Use your original bolts and the washers from the kit as well. Only torque the nuts to the point where the bushings squash flush to the diameter of the washer. Before putting the nuts on, use high-strength threadlocker AND a lockwasher. The bushings will center themselves in the holes
because they are tapered slightly and don't walk around either. Don't forget to set your engine bumper clearance when done.

Hope it helps.

You do NOT have to pay to join the IH Cub Cadet forum. You can get a user name and password absolutely free. You do have to pay to use the classifieds.

Jim,

I did not mean you have to pay to join, as you said, you only have to pay to post on the for sale/wanted section. I guess my reply was not real clear.

Rob
