i have a briggs starter of a 10 horse and my problem is that once in a great while it works as should but any other time it engages by itself and wont stop unless you unhook the battery and then when try to do the same or rewind the starter piece by hand and then hook the battery back up it engages on its own again. anything would help im lost out here this my first year working on these briggs and starting to wonder why.

I have a 12hp B and S which on starting will not engage on the flywheel, is this the same problem? I have tried everything but the only thing that seems to work is WD40, although I think they are supposed to run dry. Please let me know if you find the right answer.

It is a common problem with the OHVs. Check the
valve clearence and the rocker arm studs for
looseness. Fish
