Need some advice. The lawn tractor I bought last year that worked just fine when I parked it will not start. It is an older Cub Cadet 1120 (MTD years)with a 12.5 HP Kohler engine. I bought it from a trusted source last fall and it ran fine. I have only personally run it about an hour before it was parked for the winter. At first I figured it was just flooded. It will turn over and over and once in a while it was giving a massive backfire. I was giving the spark plug good cleanings with the torch, as well as clearing the gas out of the cylinder with it. It does have spark and I drained the old gas and put new in. What is really concerning me is that when I remove the spark plug, it is wet and black with what appears to be oil.

I have quit trying as it is starting to mike slight funny noises when it turns over.

I will probably take it to a small engine repair guy, but thought I'd see if you guys had any ideas. I'd rather save my experimental tinkering for engines I don't have to rely on.

Thanks,

Tony

IF SITTING ALL WINTER IT MAY HAVE VALVE STICKING (CHECK COMPRESSION),THEN CHECK FOR CORRODED POINTS (IF EQUIPPED) OLDER ONES SHOULD.IF POINTS MAKE CONTACT JUST ONCE IN A WHILE THEN YOU HEAR-----KA-BANG----- AND YOUR EARDRUMS ARE RINGING.FUNNY NOISES ARE PROBABLY INDICATION FROM STARTER HAVING TO CRANK TOO LONG AND BURNING UP.THESE STARTERS ARE EXPENSIVE.INVESTIGATE PROBLEM BEFORE FRYING STARTER..... ...
