MY DAD RECENTLY GAVE ME A 16HP MTD RIDING MOWER. I TOOK IT TO A SMALL INGINE SHOP AND HAD A GENERAL TUNE UP DONE. I RUNS PERFECT WHEN I GAN GET IT CRANKED! THE REPAIR SHOP SAID I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY, I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY! SAME PROBLEM...I HAVE TO DEPRESS THE CLUTCH/BRAKE VERY HARD AND REPEATEDLY AND IT SOMETIMES CATCHES AND STARTS..I CALLED ANOTHER REPAIRMAN, HE SAID IT WAS THE SAFETY SWITCH OR THE METAL PIECE THAT PUSHES THE BUTTON ON THE SAFETY SWITCH ,,IT GIVES WHEN TOUCHING THE BUTTON ON THE SAFETY SWITCH, AND IT WOULDNT DO MUCH GOOD TO REPLACE IT..HE SAID HE HAS SEEN PEOPLE BYPASS THE SWITCH BUT HIS COMPANY WOULDNT ALLOW HIM TO ALTER SAFETY EQUIPMENT... I BELIEVE IT IS THIS SAFETY SWITCH,CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO BYPASS THIS SAFETY SWITCH ON MODEL# 1360675 G06242482..THANKS

Proper thing to do is locate the switch and see if you can adjust it. Never bypass a safety switch, especially if anyone else will ride it, or in the event you sell it.

Common thing for these swx's to get bad. I would recommend replacement of swx due to safety reasons. However you can check the swx with an ohm meter or jump the 2 connections on the plug part of the harness with a small wire. Swx's are not expensive. as previously stated tho, check the adjustment. If you can push the clutch/brake several times while key is engaged and it starts, probably the swx..
