I have an IH Cub Cadet Tractor 1050 Serial number 000784225 bought in June 1981. A Kohler 10hp engine serial #1829416853. 3 speed transmission up to 6.8 mph and reverse at 2.5mph. A Cub 38” Garden Tractor Deck model number 357. Tires are 16 x 6.50-8 in the front and large 23 x 8.50-12 in the rear with a 44in wheelbase. For better traction, I have cast iron wheel weights and chins. There is also a Cub Spring Trip Plow Blade 42” with the ability to adjust to various conditions to lighten work and shorten the hours on the job. Also, I have a 30S-76-lawn sweeper by Precision Products. Everything is in good condition and it was a great workhorse on my 7 acres until recently. The shift locked up on me and I am now being told that I need to replace the shift fork for first and reverse. Problem is, I am unable to locate the needed part and I am told that Cub does not carry it. This leaves me with two dilemmas.
1). Where can I find the needed part. 2). If I can’t fix and need to sell, what kind of price can I ask for?

The replacement part number is 717-3208
Old part number is IH106866C1.

I hope to think this is fixable since I can't afford another tractor and want to continue to be a proud Cub owner. Please, help me not to send this Cub to it’s grave in a heap of scrap metal. Anybody out there with suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Please reply or Email. Johnsobg@aol.com Thanks, Brad

Go to yer Case/IH dealer with fork in hand and compare it to one for a Farmall Cub. On the older IH Cub Cadets, the forks (and trans) are the same as the Farmall. Bet yours is, too. Cub Cadet lists the forks as NLA, but you can get one from your IH dealer. $60 a pop, though. Which brings me to this: The most common problem with the forks is that they crack across the top of the clamp. If yours is cracked and all there, weld it or have it welded so the clamp is in the same spot, grind off the weld, stick it back in, tighten the bolt and go!

Jim, Thanks for the quick follow-up. Fork in hand and compare I don't believe is an option. My Cub Cadet dealer informed me that the part is SHATTEED, so welding it or duplicating is nil. I will share the info with my Cub dealer about going to a Case/IH dealer and I will start pursuing to try and get one from an IH dealer myself. In the meantime, all other suggestions or ideas are welcomed. I'll keep you posted on what I do or do not find out. Thanks

Umm... not to nitpick here, but isn't A 1050 A HYDRO QUITE LINE? You sure it's not a 1000?
