I have a Sears 917.270622, 42" HYD mower. It's 4 years old. I just got it out of the shed to start the mowing season and it will not run under load. Starts fine, but as soon as you release the brake/clutch, the motor cuts off. Any ideas?

Check your safety switches for disconnected wires
or buttons not getting depressed, especially the
one on the seat. Fish

I know where the seat safety switch is, but have no idea where any others are. The manual doesn't show any others. If the safety switch was bypassed, the tractor should run all the time, right, even if no one is in the seat? How would that cut the engine off when the clutch/brake is released? What I mean is, if I disconnect the seat switch and the mower will start without me in the seat, then the switch is good, right? Hey, I can do a head gasket job on a car, but mowers are beyond me.

Has something been bypassed? How many wires are
going to the seat switch? what are the engine's model numbers? I looked at the tractor's wiring
at sear's site, but it was hard to read. On some tractors if you unplug the seat switch, you will
get this result. Let me know. Fish

I bow to the master. I unplugged the seat switch, started the mower with the brake locked and no one in the seat. then I shut it down, plugged the seat switch back in, started it (with me in the seat) and everything was back to normal. Evidently, the seat switch was stuck or jammed. I'm back to mowing. (don't know if that is a good thing or not) Oh, nothing has been bypassed on this mower. It is still factory straight. I bought it new four years ago. Thanks for the input, I'd still be looking at filters and hoses.
