Larry - Here's a few things to check. Take the fuel cap off and see if the tractor starts any easier. Sometimes the vent in the cap becomes clogged, causing a vacuum to develop that prevents fuel from flowing properly. If that does the trick, pick up a new cap from the dealer. Also, check the fuel filter. You might just want to replace it anyway, since they are fairly inexpensive. The fuel tank may have debris plugging the outgoing fuel line. This requires some care in back-blowing the fuel line. But then, if the debris is not removed, it will most likely plug things up again. Those are the easy things. Here's some other possibilities: You may have stale or bad gas. The float in the carb may be defective (not allowing gas in). I'm not familiar with the carb on the 165, so I don't know if there is a float adjustment, but if there is, it could be out of wack. The carb itself may be in need of an overhaul. The fuel pump could be at fault. Choke might be sticking. It's also possible that the timing is off or you are not getting enough spark (coil problem). Hope this gives you some ideas to work with. - Dave
