I just got an Economy Lawn Tractor, Year & Model Unknown. Has a 4 foot mower deck, Has 8x16 lug rear tires. It has a large B&S engine. It has a starter-generator setup that is not wired up. The generater is a Delco Remy 12 volt. There is a battery box under the seat. It has offset steering. Does anyone have any kind of information on a beast like this and how should the starter-generator be wired up?

Ralph,

Can you get a serial number off of it? I have a list of SNs here that I can help you with. There are only about two years that they put a 16hp Briggs on them. Other than that, they pretty much used kohler 14hp or 18hp on the metal body tractors which is what you have if you have offset steering. Some of the smaller models (Jim Dandy) used a 12hp kohler and some older models used 9 and 10hp engines. I have a 1948 model with a 7hp wisconsin. Try www.powerkingtractors.com

This is a group on yahoo for Power King tractors. There is a wealth of information to be had from the membership there. Sign on, sign up and learn everything you want to know about your tractor. It's free and you wont find a better source for information or parts. Presently there are around 500 knowledable people on this group.

You have a 1962 tractor. I THINK the E means it has electric starting and lights. The guys in the group can verify that. It very well could be a briggs 9hp or 10hp on that also. I'm not as familiar with the 50's and 60's machines. Look forward to seeing you on the group.
