Wayne, I will assume that the motor is not "frozen" from lack of use and was running recently.First, locate your starter solenoid. On my LT4000 it is under the hood mounted to the frame on the same side as the blade engagement lever. There are 3 wires going to it. Two large red ones and a small white(?) one. Next, make sure all the connections from the battery to both sides of the solenoid and the starter are clean and tight. If they need cleaning/tightening, disconnect the battery BEFORE performing this maintenance. Remove the covering (if any) from the two large red wires on the solenoid. Use an insulated metal tool (screwdriver) to "jump" the two terminals when the key is in the "run" position. If the starter turns over then we've eliminated the starter as the problem. There will be some "sparking" so be aware of this. Now remove the small wire on the solenoid and insert the red probe from your multi meter. Touch the black wire from the multi meter to the terminal where the small wire was attached. Turn the key to "start" (might need a buddy here). If the meter DOES NOT show current then it is more than likely one of the safety switches. There are three on mine. One is under the driver's seat and is activated by a person sitting in the seat, one by the clutch/brake pedal which is activated by depressing the pedal and one by the blade engagement lever which must be in the "disengaged" position before the solenoid will be energized. They can be bypassed by disconnecting them from the connection and inserting a small piece of wire into both sides of the plug. If after bypassing ALL the safety switches there is still no current at the small wire on the solenoid then try replacing the ignition switch. If you do elect to replace the switch, make sure to label the wires BEFORE disconnecting them or remove one at a time and connect it to the new switch. If the meter DOES show a current but nothing happens when you turn the key, then in all likelyhood the solenoid is defective and should be replaced. Refer to the link below for a wiring diagram. You'll need the model number off your mower. Just answer the questions and you'll eventually get to the wiring diagram. Since it's not in color it may not do you much good. Sorry but that's the best I could do. Hope this helps Beaux
