Is it possible to rebuild the driveshaft from a Ford LGT tractor? There is no parts list for it, just a replacement to the tune of $420.00! Anyone tried this, or am I going to have to shell out the cash? 8*(

I've got a 1983 Lgt 18h and both the front and rear U-joints on the drive-shaft are shot. I'd like to know how the drive shaft is removed on this machine. The gas tank partially wraps around the driveshaft. If I could get it out the I could remove the screen attached to the firewall and remove the shaft from the flywheel.
Please help!

The rear u-joint was seized, and the front u-joint had excess play. This tractor was bought from a wrecker, so I don't know it's history.

The driveshaft was manufactured by Weasler Co. a large supplier to the farm equipment companies. You should be able to take it to a farm equipment dealer that also handles lawn and garden stuff. They will be able to order the correct repair parts for under 50 bucks. I know that Lawn Boy (maker of these Fords) doesn't supply individual components, but knowing that it is a Weasler Brand will make repair parts simple to locate in your area.

Oh, thank God! I'll give it a try! I figured I was screwed this time, and I've got too much into that tractor to quit now!
Thanks for the reply, you've made my day!
