Does anybody have any ideas why ? It will move a little in forward and reverse if the wheels are raised but there doesn't seem to be any power to the wheels if you lower it to the ground. The tractor has sat for quite awhile out in the elements. The trans is a Hydro Gear assembley.
I'm not familar with these tractors or transmissions as it was recently given to me.It has a knob on the right beside the forward reverse lever and i don't know what its for. It seems to be seized as it will not turn or lift? The tractor itself run's awesome and seems to be in good shape and basically all original.Any ideas as to the year or years the 120 was built?

With time and use, hydro fluid breaks down and the end result can be a tractor that won't go anywhere. Since that unit has been sitting out in the weather for some time, I suggest changing out the hydro fluid and filter. Make sure you get a HYDRAULIC filter; an engine oil filter, while it may screw on to the tranny, will not knock out the dirt that damages hydro transmissions. Case IH HY-TRAN is one of the best fluids on the market.

Ron, I have one of the LGT125s with the Hi/Lo hydro Billy speaks of and I also have a Ford 120 like yours. The knob you are referring to is a hydraulic release for pushing the tractor around when the engine is not running. It took me a while to figure this out when I first got my tractor. The knob must be turned fully clockwise for the hydro to work and turned fully counterclockwise to release it for moving the tractor without the engine running. It should never be partially turned when the tractor is being used. When I first got my tractor, this knob was "froze up tighter than an old maid's p...ocketbook". After soaking it with PB Blaster and working it back and forth, it finally released and works smoothly now. I hope your problem is that this knob is in the open position which won't allow the hydraulics to build pressure. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Thank's for all who responded to my problem as it has been resolved! YES it MOVES !!!! hooray!!
Brian G You were right on the money that lever was in the counterclockwise position. I soaked the you know what out of it with WD40 and finally broke it loose. It now moves freely and so does the tractor!

Thanks again

I'm sincerely glad that your problem is resolved. These tractors are built by Jacobsen and that particular series was built from around 1966 thru 1971. In 1972 Ford came out with the more modern LGT series, still built by Jacobsen. I have both types and they are all very well built durable machines. There is a Yahoo! site specifically dedicated to Jacobsen/Ford/Oliver/Minneapolis-Moline Garden tractors. All built by Jacobsen; basically just different colors. Check them out; there are a lot of good and knowledgable guys over there. Brian

There are 2 female hex plugs on the bottom of the Hydrostatic unit.
I removed the larger one and drained the fluid.
Hope this helps.

The lever slips on the shaft sometimes and limits the forward speed. There is a little set screw that lets you adjust the neutral location.

I am not familiar with the hydrostatic trans on the 120, but I have a mid-70's model LGT 165 and a large 1975 MTD 990 with hydrostatic trans. Both of mine have a hi and lo range with a neutral. If it is in neutral it will not move. The hi-lo lever on mine moves side to side and is located right under the front of the seat, a little to the right side. With the motor off and pushing the mower in hi or lo range you will hear the gears in the trans clicking when the wheels turn. With it in neutral it is quiet and rolls a lot easier. I do not know what the knob is that you could not turn or lift, but could be the hi-lo lever or a brake lock. Hope this helps.
