Al - You should use John Deere Lo Viscosity HyGard Hydraulic Fluid in your unit. Type F is an acceptable alternative, if you can find it. Dexron IS NOT A GOOD CHOICE for your hydro unit. You should also use the filter available from John Deere. Their filters are not over-priced. Too restrictive of a filter will cause flow problems and the hydro unit will be less responsive and can lead to overheating. - Dave

Price is not the problem, since I can't get a filter near home I will take the time to drive to a jd dealer and get the right stuff. Thanks to all that replied.

the mercon dextron will work fine. the only difference in it from type f is it has a higher heat tolerance. we have used the dextron in our fleet for all automatic transmisions with great success,,,lucas

I have a Jacobsen Super Chief 10 hp kohler. I can't seem to find anyone who can tell me what type of hydro-static transmission fluid to use since the manual calls for either of two types that no one has and can't seem to cross-reference the numbers to anything more current.

Does anyone know what type of fluid and where to buy some along with a filter?

The type of fluid originally called for is:
Sunray DX Altran 100 Type fluid No. 30216, or

International Harvester All-Weather Hy-Tran Fluid, No. 372 705 R4, or exact equivalent.

Any info anyone can provide me would be most helpful. thanks, tk
