I just went through the same problem on a 317!I put everthing on new and still weak charge. Next move is to replace the flywheel. Weak magnets can cause same problem. Waiting on a flywheel, to see if this solves the problem!!!

Check to see if you have 12 volt on the center terminal of your rectifier. It must have 12 volt to charge.

Are you sure the battery is good?

Hey John;
My 317 did the same thing as yours. Drove me nutz for about 3 weeks till I checked and changed the Magnitic PTO clutch. It had a shorted winding, causing a high amp draw. The clutch can cause A LOT of electricial glitches, burn out what seems to be non related wiring, and be a general pain in the ..... .. well you know where. I got mine from Scheffel Equipment in Somerset PA, and paid an outrageous price, but, I had to have it.
