the engine has only 2 wires one red which is hot all the time it goes into what looks like a diode? which is hot only when cranking is this correct?? also engine has a black wire which goes into a insulated terminal??? what does this do??
Tractor just would not start one day,,has NO spark Thanks Dave

The reason it is hot while cranking is cause that it is coming from the alternator underneath the flywheel. So when you crank it, you are making electricity. The black wire runs to the magnetron (coil) and is used to ground it out so it wont fire and you can shut off the motor so that is why it is insulated.
