AC 611 LTD Question

Some questions on the Allis-Chalmers 611 Ltd:

The 5th gear seems to go smooth then slip or jerk for a second, goes smooth, jerks, and repeats this. Reverse does it once in a while, and the other gears are fine. 1. How does the gear box work in one of these tractors? 2. Would I be able to fix it, or should I take it somewhere? I've rebuilt a couple Farmall tractors (transmission, engine, etc.), so I have some mechanical ability.

When I mow (I have a two blade mower deck) I get a strip near the center of where the blades meet that's partially cut. I resharpened and balanced the blades, but it still happens. What's causing this and how can I fix it?

Excuse some possible bad terminology: The "ball" joint that connects the left front wheel to the steering "tie rod" is loose and keeps falling out. I temporarily fixed it with mechanics wire, but I would like to really fix it. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

On the deck problem, it sounds like you either have a worn-out blade(it's not the proper length) or the deck is bent/not level.
