Cub Cadet 127 mower clutch?

I looked at a 127 today. Guy says everything works good except the manual mower clutch on the front. I didn't know there was such a thing. He took it off and sent it by a guy to see if it could be rebuilt. All I saw was the pulley with a wavy looking piece of tin on it.

What can anyone tell me about this type clutch? What does a new one cost? Do they give many problems?

It is hydrastatic drive and looks decent. Any pros or cons? Thanks!

PTO clutch rebuild kits readily available from your Cub Cadet dealer. Easy rebuild if you follow instructions well. I'd recommend a service manual for it, too, if you buy the 127. Call Cub Cadet at 1-800-800-7310 and they'll ship you a manual reasonable.

Manual PTO clutch used on IH Cub Cadets from the model 70 through the model 169. Also was an option on the original IH Cub Cadet, made 1961-63.

127 a reliable machine, built heavy, lots of cast iron (axle, engine, front grille housing, transmission case). I own 3 of them. Be sure to look for rust perforation on the deck skin (common) and be sure to check the engine for wear (blue smoke coming out the valve cover or in exhaust, metallic dust in oil when rubbed on finger, etc.). Many, many new parts still available through Cub Cadet, or used. Hydro unit highly reliable.

Jim, Thanks for the info! I was about to think I wasn't going to get a reply. Seems the color war posts get all the action. Any idea what that clutch assembly costs? I noticed all the cast iron. Looks like a well built machine and this one looks pretty decent.

i rebuilt the one on my 147, no problem, if no fingers bent, and surfaces pretty smooth, about 30.00 from cub dealer. kit comes with friction wear disc and guage to set fingers. i would recommend replacing springs (they are about 3.00 each)

Thanks seadooman! He sent the assembly by another guy to someplace. I hope to see it soon. Maybe they won't lose any parts. I've never seen one. I can usually do pretty good if I take something apart. If somebody else does, who knows? I hope to talk with him today.
