Hello Ralph, Look and see if you have a rectifier under the blower housing on the carb side. There should be 3 wires from the alternator connected to it. If you do you have a dual circuit system. The fuse holder (if you have one) is just that. It takes a 7 1/2 amp fuse. the rectifier changes the ac to dc. The one on my case 108 is bad. If yours is good you should get 12 volts dc or more off the red wire. The black wire is for the lights, look for ac on it. If you don't get the dc voltage I have the info on how to test the rectifier. Let me know.

I have the same model case 108. On mine there is a device on the other side by the carb. It's an aluminum thing that I think is a rectifier. On mine it doesn't work. Read my message on the board (Odd piece in charging system)

Red and black wires coming from stator.
parts manual shows fusing, should i fuse this if so what amp?, which wire, red?

what would be the easiest way to trouble shoot the charging system? am I looking for a number of dc volts????
thanks again

without knowing which charging system you have because b&s uses about 8 different ones. go to the library or a b&s dealer and look at his books they have a simple way to id and how to check test with a volt meter, some use dc amp dc volts etc.
