Hello All,
Are the Ford model Garden tractors any good? I have found one for sale. Looks good from the road. Havent stopped yet to see the model but it looks to have a 48" deck on it. Are there any websites out there about these? And, where could I find more info about the Ford Garden Tractors?
Thanks,
Chris

Well I am by no means an expert on all the models of Ford LGT's. I mainly know of the years 72-8? that were made by Jacobsen. Of these models they were as good as you could buy. (Yes as good as a John Deere) I don't mean to start a color war here but several companies made exceptional tractors in the 70's some still do but the list is getting smaller. As with any older tractor LOOK, LISTEN & FEEL. That should tell you all you need to know about it.

For your info
Jacobsen also private labeled garden tractors for White Farm Equipment with Models 145,125,105,75. I still have my 1974 White ( bought it new ) and continue to this day to cut 2 acres a week. Strong triple blade deck, Kohler motor, full rear end, strong tube frame etc.

good luck

As Pete says, they were made by Jacobsen and truth be known, I would guess Jake made 10 times as many with the Ford logo than their own as you rarely see a Jacobsen but Ford's are everywhere. The fact that there are so many still running is a tribute to how well they were built. The first series (Ford 100, Ford 125, etc.) started in the early sixties and continued thru 1971. In '72 they changed the design and they were designated LGT 100, LGT 125, etc. all the way up to 19HP. Although quite different, both are excellent tractors. They all used Kohler engines and the frames were solidly built. I have been able to get parts from my local New Holland farm equip. dealer. I have several of both versions and I wouldn't trade any of them for one of the new cheap tractors. Good garden tractors are still being built, but they are EXPENSIVE! Yahoo! "Groups" has a great site dedicated to Jacobsen/Ford/Oliver/Minneapolis-Moline garden tractors; all built by Jacobsen. If the tractor is in good operating condition and reasonably priced, you will not be dissapointed if you buy it!
