I have just recently torn my motor apart after killing it. I started it up and it ran for about 5 mins. then quit. I found it broke the piston rod and chipped the bottom of the sleeve. also scourd the crank shaft badly. 14 hp koeler. is it possible to install a smaller motor? could there be somthing wrong with the hydo. pump that caused it to do this? where can I purchase parts and a services manuel at? mark

You sure it was assembled correctly during the repair? I would'nt go any smaller than the current engine for you'll need the hp for the loader, which is one of the reasons the 642 was discontinued. If I had a choice, I would look into a larger engine like a V-twin but make sure that the engine is capable of sustaining 3600 rpm and try to find one where the torque is reached in the 2000-2500 rpm and then kind of flattens out instead of dropping off. If you're running a mower deck under it though you may want to remain with the 14 hp koehler. Check the ingersol website for a dealer close to you, that company bought out the Case garden tractor line.

If you want a larger engine use the one from the 646 which was the 16hp Onan cast iron industrail twin. I had one for approxiately 12 years and never had to touch it. Unit had approximately 4000-5000 hours on when it traded it off. Engine will fit in the same frame.
