High compression spot

Uncle Glen has a 6.5 horse walk behind weed eater. It's a rope pull start. It has a tight spot in the compression cycle that requires both hands to slowly pass and then with a quick yank it will start and run like a sewing machine. Glen caught the second cycle before it started the other day and it kicked back and fractured his wrist. Any ideas on how to relieve that tight compression spot?

May be flywheel key partly sheared.Don't know what kind of motor but on the overhead valve motors if the valves get a little out of adjustment it will surely kick back as it changes the timing a little. If the valves get a little loose it will build compression before the valve opens and cause a kick.

Sounds like a timing problem, check the key that locates the flyheel for damage.

Used to be you could find lil compression releases that would screw into the plug hole and then the plug screws into them. Haven't seen one in a long time, though.

What brand engine? If it is a Kohler, it should have an auto compression release that is not working right. I'd almost bet whatever brand it is, if the compression is high enough to fracture a wrist, they included an auto compression release on it that is faulty.
