I SOLVED THIS FLOODING PROBLEM 25YEARS AGO.IT IS SIMPLE IF YOU CAN SEE FUEL LINE MAKE IT A LITTLE LONGER PUT A SHUT OFF VALVE IN THE LINE.WHEN YOU GET READY TO START MOWER ONLY OPEN VALVE ABOUT ONE HALF TURN.REMBER YOU ONLY NEED A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL TO RUN MOWER.YOU BE THE JUDGE ON HOW MUCH FUEL YOU NEED. I ALWAYS PARK MOWER SHUT VALVE AND LET IT KEEP RUNNING TILL MOTOR QUITS. THIS WAY THERE IS NO FUEL IN CARB.USE A 1/4'' WATER VALVE I HAVE HAD MINE IN LINE FOR 25 YEARS ..IT WORKS GREAT FOR ME DROP ME A NOTE I WILL HELP YOU ANY WAY I CAN BLESSINGS FROM FLORIDA..

Does it have eletric fuel pump? If so that is the problem. If not take some emory cloth sand the ears that the float ride in should fix it if you have checked everything else.

Make sure the float doesn't have a hole in it. I had the same type of problem with a 11 h.p. Briggs and the float had a tiny hole in it. Replaced the float and it fix the problem.

Change needle and seat and make sure the vent in gas cap is open.

Did you replace the Needle and Seat? Our shop has had several of the 12 - 16hp briggs 3 - 4 years old come in doing the exact same thing. They run fine and when they set they flood so bad that they hydrolic lock the cylinder.

I realize that this doesn't solve the core problem, but it will prevent the flooding: add a fuel shutoff valve somewhere in the fuel line - common, easy fix.

I am wondering if your float is getting hung up on something in the float bowl, like on a piece of flashing or something.

Sounds to me like if you're getting gas in the oil you have another problem...perhaps a blown head gasket?
