Anyone know what year the 1720 Cub Cadet was made? I have an opportunity to buy one for $750 that is in very good shape. Is this a good deal??? (17HP Kohler 2 cyl, 46" deck, Hydro) Is there anything I should be aware of?

Thanks for your help folks!!!

some say 1988 some say 1992. either way the biggie is the hydro pump. the linkage is critical to the operation and if any wear occurs the unit will appear to loose power forward and reverse when in fact the pump valve isn't getting the proper input because of the linkage wear. get underneath the rear. pull on the linkage (forward/reverse) to see if there is any slop in the movement. this linkage is extensive and difficult to replace if worn so don't go there unless you've plenty of time on your hands to replace it. also the lever on the hydro pump should have a roll pin to fasten it to the pump not a cotter pin. the roll pin should be very tight in the hole so there isn't any slop in the lever movement. if there is, again it will seem the hydro is no good. also the lever is made of pot metal and subject to breakage. make sure it isn't cracked. up front the engine has been known for years to leak gas through the carb into the crankcase when shut off. the gas tank is higher than the carb and causes the float valve to open letting gas to run right into the engine when off. make sure the oil doesn't smell like gas. this problem can cause significant premature wear in the engine if not corrected right away. when you start the engine if it backfires the chances are the problem exists. other than the normal wear and tear items on the deck/belts/etc the 1720 is a runner. incidentally the hydro pump is a high quality rebuildable type with engineering that allows it to easily outlast the tractor.

I purchased one in 1988 for 3800. with 38" deck. I would not trade it for another tractor today. I have had nothing but normal maintenance. $750 if in good condition is a steal.
