Not mine a friends. Runs but when it gets hot it back fires shoots flames out and shuts off can be kept running if choked or throttle is cut back. We have installed new points; plug and condenser rebuilt the carburetor; decarboned the head. Runs a lot better but still wants to shut off when it gets hot. The coil is good. Anybody have any other ideas?

Checking the valve clearances would be the first
thing I would look at. Also look for a fuel
delivery problem. Fish

Thought it might be something like that I wasn't sure if there was any thing else that I may have missed. Thank you.

SEEING AS YOU SAY IT SHOOTS FLAMES WHEN HOT AT HIGH RPM ,BUT NOT AT IDLE, I WOULD SUGGEST YOU REMOVE THE EXHAUST VALVE AND IM PRETTY SURE YOUR GONNA FIND THAT IT IS HANGING UP FROM A CARBON BUILD -UP DUE TO BLOW -BY IN A WARN VALVE GUIDE. I HAD THAT HAPPEN ON QUITE A FEW MOTORS IN MY DAYS. GOOD LUCK, GEORGE

George has it! You need to take out the valves (do both while yer there) and inspect them for burning of the valve and/or seat. If they are not burned, run a solvent-soaked rag down through the guides, clean off the valve stems with solvent. Then you need to get a tube of coarse valve grinding compound and a tube of fine, and then use a suction cup grinding tool to grind them until you see a nice ring all the way around the valve skirt and the seat. Coarse first, then fine. Apply compound to the valve skirt, then put valve in guide to grind. Wipe off old compound, thoroughly clean everything before reassembly. Be careful not to get compound in the passages or down in the guides!

Next, reset the tappet lash to spec (see plate on side of engine). Decarbon the engine, reinstall head with new gasket to proper torque. It'll run like a champ!

To prevent this in the future, add one capful of Marvel Mystery Oil to each tank of gas. It helps these old Kohlers run on new unleaded, keeps the top end lubed up and fights carbon. It is the only "snake oil" I will recommend.

I assume you have removed the cowlings and cleaned out any refuse, and checked the valve clearances and ignition timing.
