Series 1 KT17's have only a pressurized main bearing lubrication and rely on the submersion of the rod to lube it. (Thats why they pop on a hillside)A series 2 KT 17 has a "Full Pressure Lubrication.(Both rods & mains) I run mine 1/2 quart over just to play it safe. Good Luck. Don

Hi i have a 782 i loved untill a couple of weeks ago when it threw a rod. come to find out it is quite common in the kohler KT17S motor in them. i am now trying to decide whether to fix the old motor or go with another that has full pressure lube. i have a steep bank i mow so they say thats why the rod went. let me know how you make out. ps i love every thing else about the tractor. John
