Hello, I have a MTD 60's or early 70's tractor that has a steering problem. While I drive it around the steering wheel drops a half inch and I have to pull up on the wheel to get it to turn. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this and is this a easy fix? Also the sheet metal is battered at the steering. Is the sheet metal repairable? Thanks for any and all help in advance.

You might check with rowerdink.com or Jacks small engines.com on parts

Probably worn bad over years. I am with lou, if you cant rebuild the assembly, use a spacer. Doubtful if you can find any ready made sheet metal. Battered sheet metal is easy to fix, who knows maybe this is the steering problem. Could have thrown steering shaft out of alignment.

Don't know anything about that tractor, but a judiciously applied hose clamp might help.
