Just got my "new" Agricat ready to start.Briggs Model 23.Started on the first pull after sitting for at least 5 years. So much for the brag. She will run for a few min. then start missing, then dies. Getting fuel. Check for spark, has spark, put the plug back in and it will start and do the same thing over again! Replaced the condensor and cleaned the points. Started right up and then the same thing again. Any suggestions?

The problem is the exhaust valve sticks open when the engine is warmed up. The proper fix is decarboning but I prefer to use premix fuel at about 150/1 ratio instead. It will hurt nothing and because of the "gas" we get now premix will make your engine last a lot longer. Do keep oil in your crankcase. This is not a substitute. No you can't use it in you car because it will terminate your cat con. These are very good machines. Happy crawlering.

hello I once had a riding lawn mower that did the same thing. it turned out to be that there was no vent in the fuel cap. as someone previously stated check the fuel flow. let it run for a few minites. recently I was working on a model 6 briggs that did a similar thing and it turned out to be that someone had put a larger tank on and the bottom of the tank was below the fuel inlet of the carb. the fuel didnt flow when the level in the tank was low. your problem sounds to be fuel related so look at that close. good luck clay

Needs to be a good steady stream to carb. also carb may need cleaning.
