thanks for all the help with the 782 question but I just purchased a cub 582 in excellent condition about 200 original hours for $500 bucks. I guess i'll see what happens. Wish me luck This one has a 2 cyl. briggs engine I dont know if thats any better or worse than the 17 kohler with the oiling problem.

HEY PRICE WAS RIGHT OVERALL NOT A BAD TRACTOR BUT ALSO FAMOUS FOR EXHAUST VALVE SEATS POPPING OUT.JUST KEEP THE ENGINE CLEAN OF DIRT AND MAYBE YOU WILL HAVE SOME LUCK

watch the oil level very closely, those were famous for gas seepinng into the oil. If your tractor does this get back to me and I will tell you a couple of options. Smell the dipstick for gas, probably the reason for low hours is somebody already cooked the original engine

a inline gas cut off was add to most models for the problem about gas getting into the oil. What happens is the float gets stuck an over fills. the inline valve is put into the gas line going to the carburetor so by lifting the hood its easy to cut off the gas after you finish running. If you dont have a cut off you may want to add one.
