Might buy this, if I can figure out what it is. Has been repainted, and I don't have a clue who made it. Was thinking it was a Case/Ingersol, Bolens or something like that when they were telling me about it, but it's not (perhaps a Bolens? But NOT a Case).

Anyway, it was painted red at the factory. Has a 3 point hitch (hydrolic, I believe)in the back, the mower deck is shaft driven, 60 inch. Has a 22 horse B&S Twin, made in 1983. Hydro, with the control lever (for the hydro) on the left side, kinda high up on the side of the hood (not on the hood, but on that side, general location). Has hi/low range for the transmission, the hyrolic lift is between your legs, on the left hand side of the 'console'. It's not a 'walk though' as it has a large tunnel where the engines shaft drive runs under. Tank and battery are under the hood.

Has full side covers around the engine, and the hood (just the top part) flip foward. The ID number on the tractor (not the serial number) is 144-996-065.

It's a LARGE garden tractor, but not estate sized, like a AC 720 or whatever. Very heavy. Full frame. The deck and blade are both quick disconnect. The shaft driven deck runs off a pulley on the front of the engine, which in turn runs the shaft.

I'll try to take some pics tomorrow. He was thinking it was a Workhorse (Work Horse?), but wasn't that a Wheel Horse? This isn't.

It's a MTD, called them up and ordered a manual for both it and the engine while I was at it. Not sure if a parts list comes with it, but I'm hoping it does. Also of interest, it could have also been under the Mark Master brand.

I have the same exact tractor.
Mine is painted orange and white.
Gave $500.00 for it but had to short block it.
On the hood it says Mark Master.
Well built tractor.
Rear tires on mine measure 27 tall 9.5 wide.
On 15" rims.
Does anyone know anything about Mark Master.
I,m in the process of building a Loader for it.
And also a 3-point Backhoe.

The only other Mark Master I've seen is made by Gilson, in the late 70s. He actually has 2 of them, one with a one lung Kohler (14 horse I think) and the other with a 16 horse briggs twin. Either one of them is way smaller then my old MTD.

Still thinking about a loader for mine, but I believe I might just buy a bigger machine so I can do more with it, and just use this one for my lawn/garden stuff.

Here's a few pics. It was made my MTD (has the warantee thing on the back '1 year limited by MTD'). Now I'm curious if it's a newer (80s) Farm King, a White, or some other brand? Also where can attachements be gotten for it? I've got the deck and blade, but would be interested in tillers, loaders (it seems to be big enough for a loader), and anything else they may have made for these things. Thanks.

I may try to 'restore' it when I'm done using it (looks like I'll be buying it). It'll pull like a mule, and it surprised me how much it will push. Weights, chains, and calcium cloride in the tires helps in that department, I'm sure.

Yep It's an MTD. Sorry I can't tell you who sold it. They put several names on them. You might call Red River Sales in Memphis Texas 806 259 3045. Give them the model number and they can tell you who it was made for. They sell parts for many brands of lawn and garden equipmet.
Hope this helps
Frank M.

Thanks. I called them up and they didn't have alot of info on it, so I called MTD and ordered the manuals. She wasn't sure if a parts list came with them, but I'm hoping it did, I bought the tractor.

According to the model number, it may have been built by MTD and could have been marketed under a different name. I have a 1975 model Whites that was built by MTD and it has a model number of 145-990A (16 HP Briggs with shaft drive Hydro trans and shaft drive 42" mowing deck). I have a later book that shows the model numbers running as follows: 146 = 1976; 147 = 1977, etc and going back to 140 for 1980 models. If you follow through with that sequence to 144 it could be a 1984 model, which could have a 1983 model engine on it.

You were right on the money, it is a 1984 MTD (well, MTD made it, they wern't sure what name it ended up under). Now I'm looking for a tiller for it for starters, then whatever else I can find. It's quite the workhorse.

Almost forgot, a few more things that might help. It has 3 long rollers (about 1 foot long, each) on the back of the deck, kinda like Simplicity uses. And the really odd thing, it has round headlights, behind a square (headlight) grill opening. The grill is plastic. The was the shaft comes out the front (then gets turned around to power the deck) reminds me of a Bolens, with the little round cover hiding it.

Also has one brake pedal, and has an 'emergancy brake', which is a small knob you pull up to lock it for parking or whatever. That's about all I can think of until I take some pics of this thing. BTW, I may get them both, this thing, and a old Cub 106 that's in really decent shape.
