I have a Cub Cadet w/ a 17 hp Kolher. It doesn,t have a oil filter.I beleve this means it doesn,t have a oil pump,it just splashes the oil.I thought that if you use a tractor in cold weather 35-20 deg. you shuold use 10-30.but a parts person at a local dealer said they use 30w all year it makes them last longer. What should I use? how about a synthetic ?

My kolher rep will argue all day to only run 10W-30 year round. You engine does have an oil pump as well as hydraulic lifters so oil is important.

kohler reccomends 10w30 oil in below freezing temps for your engine.if you keep your tractor in a heated garage you will probably be safe with 30w but 30w gets thick in below freezing temps ,hurting lubrication on starts..lucas
