Hello, I'm hoping for a little info on my Bolens G174.

When running it bleeds trans. oil out the vent/fill cap badly. Is this an internal problem? I've checked the screen on the suction line, no problems there. Is the relief valve located on the engine mounted hyd. pump? I thought maybe the relief valve was malfunctioning and the oil was being routed across the relief valve causing the oil to be frothy (the oil appears milky when it's leaking out.), haven't checked yet, I wanted to consult someone first.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Brian,
How have you made out with your 174? I'm trying to find some onfo on a g154. Milky oil does sound like water contamination. I heard that deisel engines have o-rings somewhere within cylinder sleaves.(engine trouble, not tranny). I don't know a lot about these tractors. My expertise is cubs. Marc

Milky oil to me suggests water in it. Does this tractor sit out? If water has gotten in there, your trans may be overfull and be leaking when the pump is moving the fluid around. just a thought

Bill

I may be wrong on this so somemone correct me. Are you using the correct oil? Or is there water in it? I would try changing the oil and make sure that I have cleaned the case out thoroughly before replacing any filters and filling with new oil. Let us know if this works or if I am correct.
