We are in the market for our first garden tractor. Have approx 2 acres of lawn to mow and will need a snowblower attachment to handle a lane approx 1/4 mile long. Any general comments as to brands/features that are important are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This is the garden tractor forum but you might want to go to utlity tractor say a Ford N or something with a 3pt hitch.Im going to get grief for this recomendation but look at your place and the things that you want or might want to do.You don't want anything to small given the driveway and acerageto mow.As a kid in the early 70s I mowed nearly 10 acres with a 14hp Wheelhorse and a 32in deck. It kept me out of trouble but my mother use to say those who travel in circles will someday become big wheels.I think she lied :)
Good Luck

Check on the snowblower availability for the brand/model you are looking at. Some brands/models do not handle snowblowers. Most any of them will mow fine though.

Ever think about an old Power King tractor? They are very rugged and well built. With a driveway that long, you may want to think snow plow as that would be much faster. Of course, I don't know your whole situation either. Tuff tractors though and the size will handle any job.

Greg, Test drive as many as you can. I prefer the older style John Deeres, however, they are not the only tractors out there. Stay away from any tractor with a poorly built frame and front axle system cause sounds like this tractor is going to see a lot of use. Hydrastat in my opinion is the only way to go. Look out on ebay for prices comparisons and the Used Mower Network has used tractors. John
