Hey guys, I have a chance to buy an old Speedex tractor. The hood is rounded at the top and the grille is also rounded like the top of the hood. There is a screen in the grille. The tranny is circle type with foward, reverse, and neutral. Gear reduction is on the left side of the tractor. The sheet metal is pitted and fenders are good but the metal has no dents or dings. The engine has good compression but it's not running and it is missing the air cleaner. What model do you guys think it is? The owner thinks he may have an air cleaner for it. But if he doesn't is it hard to find an air cleaner and what would it take to get the engine to run again. It also has no paint but the decals are still there. The gentleman wants $300 is that too much for this tractor? Thanks guys.

7hp would be a model s-14 , 14 being the cubic inches of the motor . 8 hp = s-17, 17 being the cubic inches . i think that style tractor was made from 1960 thru 1972 . there is a yahoo club
for speedex.you have to join but it is free. the sheetmetal in good shape is the hardest thing to find for these old tractors, especially the hood.
i redone one a couple of years ago , putt around on it at shows , but it now stays covered up in the garage , it deserves it after 20 -- 30 years of service.

Thanks Frdmnn I really appreciate it. I have another question. Can I still purchase a manual for this tractor and are parts hard to get for this tractor?

another site with alot of info is www.speedextractorinformation.com
i bought a manual and a sticker set from
trans tech--which is speedex a couple of years ago
all the contact info is at www.speedex.com
all you hear about is how hard it is to get ahold of them there,i think he works and the speedex parts is a part time hobby on the side. but i think you can get manuals elsewhere.when i asked the guy about what parts were available at trans tech he said about everything except sheetmetal.
mine was missing alot of parts and alot were wore out.i fabricated alot of the parts because i couldn't afford to buy new ones.
i bought my s-17 for 50 dollars, but it was in sad shape.4 flat tires , no motor , hood was full of holes and dents, took me one whole summer woking on it every nite after supper.
where you located ? i'm right smack in the middle of the buckeye state.

Lou, the current owner doesn't know what model it is. I will ask him about the horsepower of the engine and get back to you. I really appreciate your comment. It also has a drawbar.
