I've used mine a lot. There is a limit as to how much material you can run through it before it will clog, but you will learn to judge that. It will dethach but you may have to make several passes to do a thorough job. I use mine to gather grass and hay behind my lawn mower to feed my small flock of sheep. It helps to load the boxes on the axle, will help reduce drifting. I used a couple of plastic gallon jugs filled with scrap lead wheel balancing weights. If you're raking over thick grass, it helps to "carry" the rake so the tines are't scraping the ground, as you would do when dethaching. Over all, I'm happy with mine, but it isn't perfect!

I bought one about 5 years ago and sold it about 4 years ago. I was a little disappointed. The rake tends to draft from to one side. It didn't want to follow behind the tractor. You can adjust how agressive you want the dethatching but I didn't find it worked very well. If the lawn was level it didn't work to bad but if you were going over a knoll or into a slight depression the unit didn't work as well. It will however, remove the old dead thatch from last years mowing. You just may have to go over it a couple of times. It does not work to rake leaves. The rake plugs instantly if there is any amount leaves. The other problem I noticed was dealing with the windrows the rake creates. You still have to remove the debris and I don't know how helpful putting it in small windrows helps. I suppose if you were going to hand rake after dethatching then it would reduce some of the labor. I had powerflow collection system on my 445 John Deere so putting the debris into windrows wasn't really helpful. I had sold my dethatcher that mounts on the front of the John Deere to a neighbor when I bought the Estate Rake. I had him use his 322 John Deere with the front mounted dethatcher to loosen up the stuff and I cleaned it up with the 445. I think the front mounted thatchers work as well. But again, I base my opinion on the fact I use the tractor and collection system to pick up the debris after it has been "loosened up". If you hand rake it may be a different story.
