I have a JD 5400 4 wheel dr. tractor with 450 hours on it, it has a power reverser transmission. It is very hard to get the lever to go in reverse, even when the clutch is used. I know two other owners of JD5400 tractors that have broke the shifter levers off trying to shift them. The dealer seems to never have heard of this. Any help would be appreciated before I break mine off.

A JD dealer from Canada E-mailed me and told me there is a major recall on the power-reverser transmissions. They eventually won't shift or go into park. Don't you think my dealer would have contacted me ? The tractor is several years old. A faulty shifter is very dangerous, come on JD !!, I don't mind your high prices, but how about taking care of your products. !!!! Don Campbell

Don, There is a service bulletin on the problem you are having. Your dealer should have fixed it, or at least notified you about it. You need to contact them about it. I worked at a JD dealer for a while and we did several of them, but can't remember the specifics.

Thanks Rick, Once I told them I heard there WAS a recall they admitted it and only then , they said they tried once to call me. I think they could have sent a notice to me in the mail , a faulty transmission is very dangerous .
