after pulling a much too large lawn roller with this tractor, the hydro unit slips pretty bad and will come to a stop if completely engaged. what can be done with it and where can i find parts?

First thing I would suggest is getting either a smaller roller or a larger tractor. Pulling too large a roller for the tractor is just asking for trouble. It's a sure-fire way to damage or destroy things.

Beyond that, try changing the hydro fluid and filter. Hydro fluid does wear out. If that doesn't solve the problem, you might consider putting another hydro unit in it.

A bigger tractor would be a better solution IMHO.

These model Cubs were not very good to begin with.
My dad had a 1420 that he put 1 hydro in,it lasted
about 2 years then it went out. He junked it. He
said it was the worst waste of $2700 he ever spent. I would suggest getting another mower. I
know the hydro unit was $600 dollars in 1993.
