Belt vs Hydraulic Tillers

I plan to purchase a garden tractor with rear-mounted tiller and am trying to determine if a belt-driven unit is suitable for my intended usage. I am getting conflicting advice from local dealers. I expect to be breaking pasture to plant shelterbelts, in addition to tilling the garden. The soil is relatively sandy and is generally free of rocks and roots. Comments?

IMO, belt drive is certainly fine for 36"-38" tillers. I have no experience with hydraulic ones, though they certainly seem expensive.

I think the quality of the overall construction would be much more a factor with my decision.

In sand, especially, I'd think a belt-drive would do fine... unless it's hard packed -- then any tiller would have a challenge.
