I just acquired a 1250 cub cadet. Can someone give me a little info on it. Is it 12.5 hp and is it still possible to get parts. It seems to run fine now. What load capacity can it tow in a reasonable range. I'm wanting to tow a drum aerator weighing around 350- 400 lbs. Thanks for any help.

Most pulling garden tractors start out with a Cub Cadet foundation in the gear drive version. It's got a reall good frame and cast iron rear end - even the hydro should be a good pulling tractor. You might want to add some wheel weights to the rear and get some ag tires.

Joel, The 1250 is a 12hp Kohler with a hydro trans. (12-hp, 50- stands for hydro) A 1200 model is a 12hp 3 speed standard shift. Most parts are still availible for the old 1000 series but they are a bit pricey. Be sure to replace the hydro filter yearly and keep the transaxle free of grass to keep it cool. Check the plastic fan for broken blades and replace it if it is damaged. These are heavy duty little tractors that can pull several times thier weight. I have owned over 30 Cub Cadets. I cut my grass with a 1967 104 model(10hp stick) that has done everything from dirt moving to 4000# boat pulling!

I second the pulling power. I have one and pull my big 2-ton trucks chassis and tractors all the time. I have big wheel weights too. Only when you loose traction do you not pull, like in wet grass or looser gravel drives and such. I've pulled combinations of discs, drags and pallets full of rocks to do my yard for seeding also. You'll have no problem.

I don't think you'll have much trouble pulling that aerator. I've used mine to pull my Suburban back home when it stalled.
