I HAVE A 16 HP ONAN ENGINE I WANT TO REBUILD. HOW HARD IS IT TO REBUILD? DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A GOOD SOURCE FOR A REBUILD KIT? DEERE ONLY OFFERS INDIVIDUAL PARTS, NOT A KIT. THANKS.

It's expensive but not any harder than any other small engine. I did some major repairs on a 18 horse Onan a while back. It was in a Sears GT18, I didn't bother with Sears for parts I went to my closest Cummings dealer. Check it out in your phone book.I hope this is of some help, holler if I can help. David in OKC

If it's an Onan, you'd better look a little closer at what you have. Deere got into a hell of a fight with Kohler awhile back over Koehler's refusal to stand behind the 17 hp engine that went into the 317. Deere decided to go with Onan at that point and the rest of the years run of 316, 317 and 318's all came out of the factory with 18 hp Onan engines. It sounds like you might have one of these.
