18 HP BS Vanguard is exactly the same outside dimensions as 16 HP BS Vanguard. Have installed several 18's in Deere 140's and 317's. More power with less gas than original engines. You can get Vanguards with the same size 1" output shafts the Kohler originals had. I'm not sure about the distance from C/L of crank to base on the 341, but when replacing the 301's or 321's with the Vanguard, the Vanguard shaft C/L is higher, so on the 140, "U" joints were needed in the driveline, instead of the original flexible couplings. Also, you needed a longer snowblower or mower belt. I custom-modified the Briggs exhaust systems, so the exhaust would some out the original hole in the hood support. The 300 would have used a battery ignition system with breaker points, and the Briggs is magneto with electronic triggering, so the ignition switch would have to be changed, or a relay added to the existing system. As you may know, there is a website selling Kohler V-twins for some of the Deere tractors, complete with the parts needed for conversion. As I understand it would be inappropriate to list the site here, email if you need an address.
