Does anyone have any info on this product?
Is it good? Is it reliable? Does it live up to it's advertisements?

I bought a 10 1/2 Horse DR Field & Brush mower last summer. It does everything they say in advertisements and more. I cut 2 acres of 3-foot high grass with brambles and 2-3 inch small saplings and the motor never slowed down one bit. I would recommend it to anybody.

If their field and brush mower is anything like their "DR Trimmer" I think you will be disappointed. My DR Trimmer (6hp nylon string trimmer) needed the trimmer head ($80) replaced twice in 18 months. The unit costs nearly $800. It is not built nearly heavy enough

From reading your comment on the DR Trimmer. I was curious about its over all effectiveness.

I have 5 acreas of tall grass. The land itself is filled with gullies and uneven ground. I have been using a lawnboy push mower. I was looking for something a little more useful. I cannot use a rider or something that has a blade. So I have been reading about the DR Trimmer. Some of the comments have good and others not so good.

Please any info would be helpful.

I live in the Texas Hill Country. Lots of cactus, brier, and the like.

Thanks

Susan

Terry, I own a DR field mower and it's everything they advertise it to be. I bought mine slightly used. It came with the lawn deck and the brush cutting deck.My family and neighbors are simply ammazed at what this little machine can do. When I bought it the lawn deck was installed and the brush deck had never been used. When I went to install the brush deck I found that it took a different belt. I called the phone # on the side of the machine and was treated better than I have ever been treated at any local lawn and garden dealers. One thing that really impressed me was that they wouldn't give me any information until they had the ID # off my machine. Since I bought it used I wasn't registered in their computer. I had to explain to them that I had bought it at a auction. Seems they have a national data base of owners and if your machine was to ever be stolen, and you reported it to them,if the theif called to get a manual or parts they would contact you concerning where your machine was. I even rented mine out to a local farmer last fall to clean fence rows. I wouldn't recommend it, But the machine returned unhurt. After 2 long years of service I've had to replace nothing. I would suggest though that you not buy one new. I've seen several at large lawn and garden auctions and they ussually sell for less than half the new price. I paid $400.00 for mine with both decks and it was less than a year old.

Just finished reading an article in Countryside magazine, a homesteader's journal: It was written by Bruce Pankratz, PO Box 15605 Minneapolis Mn 55415. Bruce tells about buying an 8-horse model.
He has land in northern Wisconsin, uses it to keep briars down. He said he hit a rock one day and took the top of the rock off, a piece about 12"x5"x3". Although it stopped the engine dead, he found no more dammage than a few small dents in the blade. Perhaps you could find his telephone # thru information. The article was in the March/April 1998 issue. From what I read from him plus what I have heard locally; I would not be afraid of it.Remember safety glasses and other protection is necessary, since small pebbles hit by the blade become "missles". Bruce said in the article that their prices fluxuate seasonally, (less in winter) to keep people working.Hope this helps...Pete A.
