Kevin - Here's the info from the 430 Technical Manual:

430 Diesel Engine Oil - SAE 15W-40 is preferred. If you use another viscosity, it's recommended that service interval for oil and filter changes be reduced by 50%. Recommended brand is John Deere TORQ-GARD SUPREME PLUS-50, or John Deere TORQ-GARD SUPREME, or other oil meeting one or more of the following API Service Classifications: CG4, CF4, CE.

If an oil other than listed above, John Deere again recommends reducing the service interval for oil and filter changes by 50%.

430 Transmission/Hydraulic Oil - John Deere HY-GARD or John Deere Low Viscosity HY-GARD. You may also use John Deere UNI-GARD or John Deere BIO-HY-GARD.

If you change the hydro oil, make sure you allow the old oil to drain completely, and change the filter as well. When installing the new transmission filter, fill 1/2 to 2/3 with fresh hydro oil.

Hope this helps. - Dave

Good recomendations Dave low viscosity HY- Guard is the oil of choice because it takes the heat better in the small(garden tractor hydros), regular HY-Guard is not recomended by John Deere

Kevin - I should have posted the capacities earlier. Sorry about that. Here they are:

Engine Oil - 3.1 quarts without filter (The tech manual does not indicate the amount required with a filter change. However, I have to wonder if it might be a typo and is actually the capacity with a filter change.)

Transmission - 15 pints with filter change.
